Chord Chart for "Jesus Savior, Pilot Me"

I've heard several people ask for the chord chart to "Jesus Savior, Pilot Me," so I asked Adam to send it to us for the blog. Adam Seate wrote the music to this old hymn (originally published by Edward Hopper in 1871) for ACS in 2002, but since then it's been picked up by groups and churches all over North Carolina and beyond! If you want to hear what the OLD hymn version (not Adam's version) sounds like, check out this link! Personally I prefer the new version!! If you're not sure how the tune goes for Adam's version, check out the last few minutes of the Pilgrimage video.

Okay, so the videos had a little trouble compressing down to a reasonable web-friendly size last night. I wanted to post them in QuickTime format, but ended up forced to use Windows Media Video (.wmv) format. But this version above is Flash Video, so everyone should be able to see it. I'll try to add iPod-friendly files as soon as I can get QT Pro to cooperate.

Monday's Rewind turned out to be pretty long, but there was a lot that happened on Day One of ACS 2007! Features scenes from Registration, Orientation, Worship, 1st Annual Game Night and more.

There really IS a Rock, Paper, Scissors Tourny!

Okay, I just couldn't resist posting this when I saw it a few minutes ago! This summer at ACS we created a hilarious video clip for the "In Your Face" series called "The 55th Annual American Association of Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament of ACS" sponsored by "ESPN 8, The Ocho." To watch the video clip, click here.

Well apparently it turns out that our farce wasn't that far from reality... according to this news story published today from Reuters entitled Hundreds to compete for rock, paper, scissors title, "Top players from around the globe will gather in Toronto this weekend to compete for a C$10,000 ($8,840) prize and the title of world champion." It continues, "Players smack their fists into their palms and count to three before making one of three hand signals: a fist (rock), flat hand (paper) or two fingers (scissors)." There's even a World RPS (Rock Paper Scissors) Society Web page at www.worldrps.com!

Who knew?! Maybe next year we'll have to send our A.A.R.P.S. of ACS champion on to the next level... yet is World RPS Society ready for our "secret play" which won the tournament this past summer? :-) Watch the video here.

NC Conference UMYF "Camp Song Sing Along"

For those of you who didnt get Jimmy Crayton's email... they are trying to get a new conference event up and going called "Camp Song Sing Along." Basically the idea is for youth and staff from the NC Conference UMYF to come together for an afternoon of singing and fellowship. We will be singing all your favorite camp songs. We will also incorporate scripture and a message. It is going to be held at Edenton St. UMC in Raleigh on September 23rd, from 4-7 pm. Music will be led by Adam Seate and Jay Locklear among others. Snacks will be provided. Now I'm sure you are wondering about cost... Very cheap. We are asking that you bring either a box of cereal, or a plastic jar of peanut butter. These will be donated to the Food Bank of NC. We will also be taking up a love offering for YSF. There is also the possibility of having T-Shirts made. What I need you to do is to pass this word along to your pastors and youth leaders and everyone in your youth group. Have someone contact "camp_song_sing_a_long(at)yahoo(dot)com" to let them know if your group is interested and how many you think might come.

THURSDAY - Truth and Consequences - "I love you, but …"
• Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 - A time for everything...
• A death-fearing culture is in conflict with a God-breathed life.
• Believing in eternity sets me on one path, carpe diem leads me down another.

• Living out of story # 1 (the universe was banged into existence for no apparent reason and with no apparent purpose. Someday it will end and there will be no one left to remember it ever existed. In the meantime, we live and die. And that’s about it.)

o First, I am aware that I will die. What’s the consequence of that?
o I try to cram all the best experiences into this one lifespan and am frustrated when I have to wait for things. What’s the consequence of that?
o Then I am not willing to explore those pleasures and virtues that require discipline and difficulty. What’s the consequence of that?

Theme of the Week: Chemistry
Bonds, reactions, equilibriums...science is a part of life. Whether in our bonds with others, our reactions to the world, or the elements in our personal life, we are all part of an equation whose answer is God. Christ is the catalyst and helps bring us closer to God and one another.

I think this one is pretty self-explantory.... Although I do have to apologize on behalf of myself and Epiphany... I know there were more females in Weaver who probably would have wanted to say something in this video. We started filming it long after the serenade at about 1:45 am in the morning. By the time we got done with the boys and realized the 2nd girls dorm didn't know anything about it, we had no idea how to wake anybody up to join us.

Okay this video was also a blast to make! After laughing so hard during Wednesday's spaghetti filming, I decided a tripod would be a safer bet for this one. And it's a good thing too... almost every shot ended with us cracking up! Maybe if I find some free time, I can edit a blooper reel with all of the outtakes from the week!
Anyway, I saw this "chinnagins" idea about 12 years ago when I was a youth and I thought it would be pretty funny for us to use this week. The hard part was that we only had about an hour to set up and film it (although we went 90 minutes and ended up all missing dinner!) We weren't exactly prepared with the props though and in the first few shots, the "hair" wasn't attached with anything... thus the female camper's comment, "Oh no, my hair is going away!" Many thanks to our wonderful performers, Holden, Jordan, Ken, Greg, Will and Chris!

Okay the videos are on their way. After catching up on my sleep last night (I got 12.5 hours in 5 nights at ACS and 11 hours in just one night yesterday!), I'm a little more coherent today! But you know what? You guys are all worth every minute of it! I'd do it again in a heartbeat... and will next summer!! :-) This was the best ACS I can remember since the ones when I was a youth.

So in the meantime while I'm deciding on which video-hosting service is the best one for me to use for this, you have a blog entry here on which you can post comments. In Your Face!!! (ACS 2005)

So I might be the slowest person ever, but the videos from ACS are finally online! ACS is a week-long high school Conference Youth Ministry event for the North Carolina conference of the United Methodist Church. It's pretty much like the coolest conference youth event ever {said in a Napoleon voice of course}! If you aren't familiar with ACS, then these videos may not make any sense to you at all... but for the 425 of us who spent a week at Methodist College this past July, they rock! Without further verbiage from me, let's get on with the videos!

This year the Conference Youth Officers decided to do a daily video segment which we entitled In Your Face!!! A major highlight of the ACS Experience is the Wednesday night dance (think high-school gymnasium) and Monday is never too early to start planning for that big night. The theme of this first segment was "Pick Up Lines to use to get that special someone to dance with you," and was hosted by Treasurer Ben Cobb. Of course everything we do in these segments is tongue-in-cheek and we'd never advocate guys using these lines on other guys... it's just that all we had was Zack... :-) Actually, part of the deal was that a staff member was supposed to be "featured" in each video and Zack was the one chosen for this piece. Despite all of the great pick-ups, he just didn't bite. {Community Standards!} Just Kidding.

Well I'm headed off to ACS this weekend, so I'm running around like crazy trying to get things ready! I set up this blog to host videos, so hopefully when I return, I'll have some snazzy videos to show ya...!
